Over this past week at Coffee & Scripture, we read from Romans 8:28, “we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” First of all, He makes this promise only to those who love Him. If you are pushing God away and suppressing His truth in your life, there is no guarantee that things are working for your good. But for those who love God and are seeking to follow Him, we have this promise. It is interesting, however, that the context of Romans 8:28 is in regards to suffering and weakness. Perhaps it’s because those are the times when it is most difficult to see how God is working things for good. 2 Corinthians 4:17 assures us that “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.” There is a purpose for suffering in the life of a Christian; it is preparing us for something bigger. And ultimately, it will be for our good.
Here is a worship song that helps to put suffering in context for us today. Take a few minutes to listen and be encouraged!
