Yesterday was Easter, when we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. It is always an exciting time of year. But I wonder if that excitement carries over into the days that follow. What about the day after the resurrection? Do you think the people around Jesus went on about their life as they had before? Or do you think the resurrection changed them? As we can see in the book of Acts, it obviously changed their life. But in John chapter 21 we see the disciples fishing, as they had done many times before. They still had to eat. Some parts of life probably seemed pretty mundane and normal. The scene in John 21 seemed to be an average day, but they hadn’t yet caught any fish. Jesus appeared on the shore and called out to them to cast their net on the other side of the boat. When they did, the Scripture says that there were so many fish that they couldn’t haul the net in. This was another miracle of Jesus. This is a great reminder to us to trust God in the everyday, seemingly mundane tasks.
Are you paying attention to Jesus in your everyday tasks? Are you looking for how He might be at work, and how He might be wanting to show you His power and grace? Can you see how He is calling you to trust Him in these times? The mundane tasks of our life can still be opportunities for us to grow in our relationship with God. Perhaps you have a paper that you need to write this week, or an exam that you need to study for; maybe it’s through those things that God is calling you to find your joy in Him and not get stressed like you usually do. What about when you’re eating dinner? Maybe God simply wants you to remember that He is your provider so that you’ll be thankful and so that you’ll trust Him to provide in other areas of your life.
Don’t get so caught up in your routine this week that you miss what God is trying to tell you!
