It’s nice to have a day off, right? A long weekend is especially nice. Today I was thinking about the Christian life, and how we can have the tendency to drift into a holiday from God. Do you ever have those days when you don’t think about God, or worse, when you try to push God away so you can live the way that you want to live? If you have become a follower of Jesus, you no longer own your life. He tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 that we have been purchased by Jesus through the cross, therefore we should glorify God in the way that we live. In the context of that passage, he mentions this specifically in regards to sexual purity. It is too easy to set aside Jesus when you go on a date or “hang out” with someone you are attracted to. Whether or not it is intentional, God is the last thing on your mind. You’ve taken a holiday from Jesus (or so you think).
When Jesus purchased you and me on the cross, God adopted us into His Kingdom as sons and daughters (2 Corinthians 6:18). We need to remember what He has done for us, remember who we are in His Kingdom, and live accordingly. If you are a child of the King, you never take time off from being His child. Don’t forget that today. Instead of trying to take a holiday from Jesus, spend some time with Him through reading His Word and praying, and thank Him for adopting you into His Kingdom.
